Self-hosting is free on all plans

We decided that we don't charge for privacy.

As a result, self-hosting is now free on all Relay plans, including the Free plan.

Paid plans add storage, SSO, APIs, support. Not privacy.

If you run Relay on your own infrastructure, you run the Relay Server, and we provide the control plane (global collaboration network). Your document content, file names, and folder structure never touch our servers. We couldn't look at your documents even if we wanted to (which we don't).

Self-hosting requires some technical know-how — Docker, a private network (Tailscale or VPN), and S3-compatible storage. Setup docs are here: github.com/No-Instructions/relay-server-template

If you prefer convenience, we offer cloud hosting on our infrastructure at no extra charge. We don't look at, train on, or sell your data — but we could be compelled by a court to hand over data. (This has never happened.)

Both are good options, but we decided that principles shouldn't be behind paywalls, and privacy is a principle for us.

So, henceforth: Relay as a self-hosting-first product. Cloud is there if you want it.
